CTL November newsletter

Dear members

A busy month ahead with a fascinating guest for our monthly meeting and the return of the club’s Anniversary Lunch after its sabbatical last year.

November club meeting

The November club meeting will be held on Thursday 11th November at 7.30pm, UK time. The meeting will be held via Zoom and should be very entertaining; our guest will be the immensely knowledgeable and insightful Gastón Ramírez Cuevas. Gastón will be familiar to many of you as La Divisa’s very amusing Mexico correspondent.

Gastón attended his first corrida at the Plaza Mexico aged 7 years old after persisently nagging his parents and grandparents, and has been a dedicated aficionado ever since. He is published regularly in a wide range of Spanish, Mexican and French publications and contributes to a number of well-known websites. He has been invited to address a number of tertulias in Sevilla and elsewhere in Spain and translated the French text of the first 10 editions of Andre Viard’s torista publication, Terres Taurines (Tierras Taurinas), which facilitated their publication in Spain. The meeting will be held in English and if you wish to join us please let me know by Tuesday 9th November and I’ll send log-in details on the Wednesday.

The club’s anniversary lunch will be held on Sunday 28th November and our guest of honour will be the matador Pablo Aguado. I attach below a copy of the flyer for the lunch and also details of the club’s annual photographic competition and voting instructions for the club’s annual trophies.

As many members are aware, this is a very popular event and we normally have to use an overflow room at the Oriental Club, as numbers exceed the capacity of the main dining room. This year we will allocate seats in the main dining room in the order of receipt of bookings, so once capacity has been reached, bookings received thereon will be assigned to the overflow room.

I look forward to seeing you at the monthly meeting or annual lunch, or ideally at both.

Best regards

Richard
