April Newsletter

Updated: Apr 3, 2021

Dear Members

On the eve of another Easter devoid of major ferias, I for one have given up making optimistic predictions about the temporada ahead. Whilst it is encouraging that some major plazas, including Sevilla have announced carteles for the coming months, it is very unclear that the ferias in question will actually be allowed to go ahead.

April club meeting

The April club meeting held on Thursday, 8 April at 7.30 PM (BST) via the Zoom video-conferencing application. This month Tristan Wood will be presenting his latest book, Toros and Toreros: Images and Memories from 50 Years of Bullfighting. This book contains the stories of 11 ganaderías and 65 toreros who have impressed Tristan over the time he has been attending corridas and forms a personal history of tauromaquia during the last half-century. It is sumptuously illustrated with over 200 colour photographs from Tristan’s extensive archive. If you wish to join the meeting please let me know by close of business on Tuesday 6 April, when I will send login details.

The club website

Some members may not have noticed that we have relaunched the club website, which can be viewed at WWW.CTOL.ORG. The site now boasts a “Members Area” for which members will require a password. This can easily be obtained by completing and submitting the “sing up form” which can be found under the “Membership” tab at the top of the page. There will be a short delay after submitting the form whilst access is approved, at which point you can log in to the members area using the email and password you selected. New content will be added in the coming months so please do take a few minutes to take a look at the new site.

The photographic competition

Congratulations to the winners of the club’s 2020 photographic competition, who are as follows:

1 Monochrome Andrew Moore

2 Manoletina Mike Penning

3= Color de la arena Chris Penning

3= Teruel Morgan Smith – who also wins the prize for the best photograph by a first-time entrant.

The photographs can be seen on the club’s website and will be published in the May/June edition of La Divisa. We hope to auction framed copies of the winning entries, once we have worked out how to stage a virtual auction!

I hope you all have an enjoyable Easter holiday.

Best wishes

Richard
